For building joint sealants, buyers may refer to ASTM C920 e ISO 11600 when reviewing product classification, intended use and performance requirements. However, a supplier should only claim compliance when the offered formulation is supported by relevant test evidence.

Fire-related claims require particular care. Buyers should understand the scope and limitations of UL 94 ratings, because a material-level flammability result is not the same as a tested building firestop system. For joint, penetration and perimeter fire-containment applications, the supplier should provide evidence relevant to the complete firestop system testing and its intended construction.

Cartridge size, declared net volume and actual fill are related—but they are not the same thing.
